AKRacing is another big player whose seats appeared on the gaming scene in the early days when things were still getting started. Even though the brand is not as well known as DXRacer is they both have a lot in common:

You get a big selection of different styles, price ranges and sizes with high-quality materials and precise manufacturing. Besides, AKRacing is trying to step up their game by releasing the second ever genuine leather chair: the Onyx. The company also supports several esports teams like Astralis or Dignitas and also offers special edition seats in their typical corporate design.

Although having a lot of variety is a good thing it makes it harder for the gamer to decide which AKRacing chair to buy. That is the point where I step in! I have owned a few AKRacing seats and still actively use my comfortable ProX now and then. Is An AKRacing Chair Worth It?

I find it quite amusing that I get asked this question that often – to make it simple: Yes, an AKRacing chair is worth it. It is worth it, if you like the design and fit into the seat. As far as the price-performance-ratio goes these chairs are on the same level as DXRacers so you can not do anything wrong with buying one of them.

Even though an AKRacing chair might not be the ultimate choice – it is not a platinum brand – you will most likely be very satisfied with all of their products as long as you pick the right series. But I am going to get there later in my Size-Guide, let us first take a look at the equipment every AKRacing seat is armed with:

Who should pick AKRacing?

Based on my experience AKRacing is able to satisfy not supreme but high expectancies in matters of quality and product design. The diversity in different sizes will fit the majority of gamers, so it again comes down to your style preferences. The new Onyx genuine leather seat might also be a decisive criterion for you.

Who should skip this brand?

AKRacing will most likely please you quality-wise but if you are looking for the best materials and workmanship available, check out my alternative recommendations. Also keep in mind that these chairs start at about 200 quid – if that is too much, move down to silver or bronze level brands. Finally, if you are a big guy of over 150 kilos, there are currently no fitting chairs in AKRacings repertoire.

Recommended alternatives

If you are looking for a quality upgrade, go check out noblechairs. Although AKRacing also offers real leather the guys from noble just do it a little better – that is my opinion. To save some money, I would give GT Omega or Nitro Concepts a try but factor in to give up some quality and customer experience. Roomy And Comfy Gaming Throne: The ProX

The ProX Series is one of my all time favourites mainly because of its comfortable measurements and attractive design. It lets gamers between 1.70 and 2.00 meters sit comfortably and carries up to 150 kilos. Just to give you a clue: If your height is in that range and your weight below 110kg, the Prox will do an excellent job. Your Favourite AKRacing Entry Chair: The Nitro

If you are an average built gamer looking for an affordable entry into AKRacings product line-up the Nitro Series could be your way to go. Why the Nitro? Because it is the best selling mid-priced AKRacing gaming chair. You may just as well pick the Player, Octane or Overture Series for they offer the same set of features and technical characteristics.

Luxurious And Spacious Real Leather Seat: The Onyx

Right now there are two real leather chairs available: The Epic Series made by noblechairs and the Onyx. Although I give the advantage to the first-mentioned since this brand is the pioneer concerning premium quality and manufacturing, the genuine leather Onyx is a viable alternative. As you will see in my review of this chair (coming soon) the measurements are quite ProX-like: The backrest is slightly lower and the seating surface a bit wider. Even though the space between the side boulders of the seat appears to be smaller, it feels de facto wider because the boulders have been flattened out.

Onyx Buying & Size Guide

Overview Of All AKRacing Chairs and Guides

Although I have not reviewed every single Series AKRacing released so far, I can give you a pretty good idea of what to expect. In matters of manufacturing standards, these chairs do not differ much from each other. But in addition to multiple styles, measurements and cover materials, there are some minor differences quality- and function-wise. Premium chairs like the Onyx or ProX have a higher foam density and more flexible armrests than some of the cheaper models which lead to more versatility as well as durability.

All in all, the product line of AKRacing is not as complicated as DXRacers and the differences in terms of sizing are not that big from the smallest to the widest chair. Consider the three categories S-M, M and M-L as a reference point since even small gamers sit very comfy in bigger seats like the Onyx.

S-M: Slim To Average

The majority of you guys is going to sit very comfortably in these AKRacing chairs. One example out of this regiment I have been field testing so far is the Nitro Series and it for sure is a great entry-level gaming chair. I would say that gamers with a height of 1.65-1.85 meters and a weight of 60-80 kilos are the main audience for this class.

My advice: It is really up to your personal choice but if I had to choose I would bow to the majority and buy the Nitro.

M: For The Average Joes Among Yourselves

The next category of chairs is in general about 1-3 centimetres wider, higher or both – as I already pointed out: The differences are very minor. To give you a rough guide value I would say that gamers between 1.75m to 1.85m in height and around 80 to 90 kilos in weight are perfect matches for these AKRacing chairs. The reach of play to this is roughly 10% depending on your build.

My advice: I did a detailed review of the Player and it is a great chair, but in the end, I give the trophy to the Premium Series. Its generous measurements make it more comfortable and it comes with 3D-armrests – the Arctica, by the way, has the same specifications. The Premium is also the best-selling AKRacing chair of this category.

M-L: Average And Larger Gamers

The XL-range of AKRacing is somewhat limited size-wise compared to large DXRacer chairs like the Tank, but it will certainly satisfy most big gamers. While the ProX simply adds some centimetres to wideness and height, the Onyx has its side boulders flattened out a bit which gives the user a less cramped sitting experience. All in all, I would say that 70-100kg/1.75-1.95m is roughly the right fit. These premium AKRacing chairs are my personal favourites and I can not wait to present you my review of the real leather Onyx soon!

My advice: While the ProX for sure is the number one crowd pleaser I would go with the Onyx just because I love those flat boulders and of course the genuine leather shroud.
