The fabulous EPIC Series is noblechairs debut product that revolutionised the gaming chair market with its unparalleled qualities back in 2016. As far as my experience goes, there has not been another seat able to simulate the prestigious feeling of a luxury sportscar with all its facets – precision, material quality, design, ergonomics – like the EPIC does. The innovative EPIC was also the first ever gaming seat available with a real leather covering.

The German brains behind this brand not only took the premium car industry’s design as an example for their EPIC Series but also based the manufacturing process on similar guidelines. In fact, they utilise the same machines that are used to craft car interior for their chairs, guaranteeing never seen before precision of stitchings and upholstery work.

Luckily I was one of the first to do an in-depth review of both the EPIC Series Real Leather and Faux Leather versions. Based on those reviews I present you my Size- and Buying-Guides as well as detailed videos of me assembling, using and comparing the two EPIC chairs.

My Review: EPIC Series Real Leather Chair

Alright, let us start with the luxury version: the EPIC Series Real Leather Gaming Chair. As its name implies, the whole chair except for the PU coated backside is covered in genuine leather – but what does that actually mean for the guy sitting in it?

I think it is a good idea to kick this review off with a short comparison of faux and real leather:

Genuine Leather vs. Its Synthetic Sibling – What Are The Advantages?

Obviously real leather is more expensive than PU and certainly way more prestigious, but it has more to offer than a lot of you might think:

It suffers less from abrasion and UV-light inflicted damage which makes it more durable
It is very tearproof
It is breathable through absorbing humidity without getting wet and giving it back off into the room air
It is more resistant to forming cracks
It is conceived as being more pleasant haptic- and comfort-wise

That said, the kind of high-quality faux leather covering used for the EPIC PU is quite competitive in matters of durability and sturdiness. In the end, it is mainly a question of taste, ethics (of course only faux leather is 100% vegan) and what you can affort.

The Assembly

If you checked out my video – it is worth it – you might have noticed that I engaged myself a little development assistance. That aside it is easy to assemble the EPIC on your own in just under 10 minutes. Compared to all the other chairs I have put together in my “career” this was the easiest and quickest to rig up.

There is a simple reason for that: The components of the EPIC are made noticeably more precise than usual which allows for an effortless assembly. Every stroke of work, every screw is a perfect fit.

My First Impressions Of This Chair

The postman who lifted the securely packaged chair over my doorstep moaned something like “Damn, this one is even heavier than the other gigantonourmous packages I typically drag into your hallway”. And he was right:

Even though the EPIC Series aims at the average sized gamer, it tips the scale at 27 kilos – that is 2kg more than the bigger King Series of competitor DXRacer weighs. As the typical German I have become, I take this as a good omen for extra solid components. Speaking of components, let us take a look at those:

Let us begin with the lumbar and neck pillows

The red cushions that shipped with my EPIC Series Real Leather chair (black pillows are available as well) surprisingly are made out of fabric instead of faux leather – that is something new. Their velvet texture has a very comforting haptic and they are less stiff than the usual PU covered pillows. I bet they will cling much more nicely to my body contour, but I will get into that later. In the centre both pillows feature the noblechairs branding in the form of a beautiful stitching.

Ergonomics and moulding of the seat & backrest

The EPIC Series has got a healthy mixture of comfy breathing room and sufficient side support going. Due to the pronounced but flattened out side boulders, one gets the desired race car feeling without feeling cramped. According to noblechairs, they implemented this feature as an answer to community feedback. Furthermore, it will also open up this chair for heavier gamers.

Cheek by jowl with the royal covering

Of course the real leather covering is one of this chair’s highlights, and I have to say that I am impressed. Not only that it feels perceptibly thicker, it is flawlessly and firmly aligned without creating any wrinkles. You can not grab it and pull it away from the upholstery like it is the case with almost any other chair I have tested yet. Not to mention its valuable and smooth texture, showing the typical natural structure of genuine leather.

Talking cushioning, precision and design

The underlying high-density cold foam stuffing feels more substential in a comforting way. It is by no means too hard, just a bit more firm because of the higher density (55kg/m³) – I will get into more detail about its characteristics later. The beautiful diamond pattern that usually attires the seats of a Lamborghini or other luxury cars catches the eye and harmonises with the sporty shape. The decorative seams are of unparallel precision thanks to the accurate sewing and embroidery machines as well as to the robot-controlled layout.

Classy logo applications

There are three different forms of logo applications that not only serve as sigils of authenticity but embellish the noble outward appearance of the EPIC Series Real Leather chair. From the discreetly embossed crown that adorns the headrest over the centred aluminium badge all the way to the leather patch laterally incorporated into the sitting surface – overall a very classy, valuable handling of the brand’s logo.

What about the armrests?

Despite being 4-directional, which is today’s gold-standard, they feel surprisingly firm. This means a major step up in perceived value since the unsteadiness of these components have been a point of criticism ever since multi-directional armrests were introduced. They are also topped off with a comfy padding, that feels softer in relation to DXRacer‘s or AKRacing‘s counterparts.

base & casters – that’s how an EPIC rolls

When I review a gaming chair I like to weigh its base which is an excellent way to examine quality as well as toughness. Cheaper products tend to use less solid components which can be a serious issue – I have seen broken aluminium or nylon bases before. The matted finish of the EPIC’s aluminium base not only looks precious but trumps with a reliable sturdiness. As far as my notes go, it is even heavier than the King’s fundament.

The rimless casters are made out of a nylon-PU material mix that allows them to roll silently as well as softly to minimise possible strain to the flooring. Quality- and functionality-wise they are above average – nothing fancy (no ball bearing rollerblades, not lockable) but spot-on.

Test Sitting The EPIC Series Real Leather

Alright, let us get into detail now and talk ergonomics, comfort and sitting climate. About a year has passed now since I did my initial review of the EPIC Series Real Leather chair thus I have a pretty good idea of its long-term qualities. On average I spend about 8 hours a day on my EPIC for it has quickly become my main computer chair at work.

Comfort & Ergonomics

With the EPIC Series they did a great job combining necessary ergonomic support with sufficient breathing room. With the levelled side boulders, noblechairs pursued a middle course that not only perfectly hit my preferences but has grown to be the number one crowd pleaser – for obvious reasons: It fits slim, average and larger gamers almost equally good.

As I already mentioned, the higher density of the cold foam batting comes with a firmer feel to it – you do not sink into it as it is with cheaper chairs. A smattering of gamers is still of the opinion that a soft cushioning is a sign of good quality, but they are mistaken: A low-density stuffing not only sucks for ergonomics but also lacks durability-wise. Especially if you are on the heavier side, you will appreciate the higher density and its feel.

No question, the soft, fabric covered pillows of the EPIC Series surpass the properties of a standard PU-cushion in every aspect. The velvet, flexible pillowcase never feels cold and comfortably snuggles to your physique.

Sitting Climate & Durability

Especially during the hot summer period last year, the real leather covering was a faithful companion. There is no arguing about its unparalleled merits in matters of breathability – you just sweat less, and your clothes stay dry – and the overall haptic is most convincing.

Over a year of intensive field-testing has lead to neither visible nor otherwise noticeable traces of wear. The higher resistance to abrasion, the added thickness and the precise workmanship in combination result in an impeccable durability. In comparison, a thin synthetic covering usually starts to show wrinkles and cracks within its texture after a couple of months.

All the other parts of the EPIC chair, including the mechanics, are as good as new, working like a charm. Overall, durability-wise the EPIC Series is one of a kind.

Adjustability

Here is a short overview of all the adjustability features the EPIC Series offers – make sure to watch my video to get a detailed demonstration.

4-directional armrests: The EPIC’s armrests can be rotated, moved up/down, in/out as well as forwards and backwards.
Backrest: You can rock in a range of 11 degrees and recline the backrest almost steplessly between 90-135° or do both at the same time. The rocking function is of course lockable.
Neck & lumbar support: Both cushions are removable and can be adjusted in height to fit the user’s dimensions.
Sitting height: The class 4 gaslift allows for an adjustment range of 10 centimetres which results in an effective seated height of 49.5cm to 59.5cm.

Interim Conculsion: The Real Leather Top Dog

With its innovative EPIC Series Real Leather Chair noblechairs has done everything right – it is exactly what was missing on the market. In a skilful way, they combined premium materials with never seen before precision during manufacturing making the EPIC Series not only stand out optically but also with top-notch ergonomics and breathability. Adding the incomparably comfy cushions covered in velvety soft fabric, the passion for detail and unparalleled customer support to the cake makes this – in my opinion – the best gaming chair available today.

My Review Of The Faux Leather EPIC Series

As a noblechairs fan of the very first hour, I had to insist on also doing a review of the EPIC Series Faux Leather Chair and luckily my German business partner Caseking supplied me with the object of desire.

Some Impressions Of The PU-Leather Chair I Tested

As you can see, I went for the black faux leather with blue stitchings that noblechairs beautifully combined.

Again this is a chair for averagely sized gamers but this time a little more budget-friendly and of course 100 percent vegan.

The EPIC Series Faux Leather Chair features the same set of armrests, casters and pillows as its big brother.

It is supported by a corresponding heavy duty steel frame resting on an aluminium base connected with a class 4 gaslift.

Even though the covering consists of an entirely different material, it is as fire-retardant as the genuine leather thanks to the special coating the company uses to ensure maximum safety and to fulfil the UK’s statutory requirements.

From afar it is hard to make out what distinguishes this PU-leather chair from the EPIC Series Real Leather model I reviewed before.

Therefore I am going to put these chairs toe to toe in the next step to illustrate the differences.

Differences: The Devil’s In The Details

A closer look at the stitchings

The decorative seams also form a diamond pattern embellishing the faux leather seat that however differs slightly from the genuine leather alternative at second glance. Other than that this chair offers the same precise craft and perfectly aligned cover.

The magic word is perforation

Taking an even closer look at the upholstery reveals the perforated surface of the PU-leather covering. This innovation is brought into the game by the German designers behind the EPIC Series to make up for the lack of breathability which unfortunately is a trait of synthetic materials.

Faux suede highlighting the side boulders

A strip of suede look-alike velours leather running across the side boulders connects the cover of the backrest to its front counterpart. It has a very gentle feel to it and perfectly rounds off the overall luxury picture.

Extra prominent headrest-logo

In this case, the shield and crown logo is more clear-cut in comparison to the subtle branding that flaunts on the real leather headrest. It is stamped in a bit deeper which renders it more of an eye-catcher – it does neither look better nor worse just differently impressive.

Interim Conculsion: Faux Leather At Its Best

Based on my reviews and all the chairs I have sat on yet, I can say that the EPIC Series Faux Leather hands down is the single best PU-Leather seat on the market. The outstanding thick covering, its deceptively real texture, the precise alignment of the material – it just feels and looks almost genuine. Adding an extensive set of adjustability and functionality as well as refined details like the imitation suede patches to the game makes the EPIC Series PU-Leather chair the most complete, yet budget-friendly gaming chair.

Even though noblechairs maxed out on the possibilities to make this faux leather covering as resilient as possible, I would still hand the durability-crown to its genuine sibling. Talking breathability, the perforation certainly seems to help but again: If you have got the money, go for the EPIC Series Real Leather chair – if not, this seat is most likely the very best alternative with its impeccable bang for buck performance!

EPIC Series Size-Guide

As I have already mentioned, the EPIC Series accommodates a pretty wide range of user weights as well as heights. For one thing, this is due to the relatively flat side boulders and for another thing due to the shape of the headrest, that allows you to use the neck pillow even in higher positions. Craftmanship: Second to none. Throughout my reviews, I have never seen such precise stitchings and perfect alignments. Nothing rattles more than it needs and you will not find any threads or plastic pieces sticking out.
Design: The successful symbiosis of luxury and sportiness renders the EPIC beautiful as well as versatile. Multiple colour schemes allow the chair to work in sophisticated surroundings as well as in a fancy game room – the black, brown and beige styles are even sought after by non-gamers.
